Groping at the Human Form..
Looking at this photo you can clearly see i spent the most time trying to grasp the torso, as the feet are laughably disproportionate. I am taking the soreness in my arm as a sign that things are going well and that I am drawing as I should in class, trying really hard to grasp the gestures and put the gestures into the work. These two drawings are ones that we worked on in class for approx. 30 minutes. The one on the right is my most recent long sitting drawing, as I unfortunately had to miss class on Thursday. It will be hard for me to start drawing again tomorrow but I am excited to get back into it. Last week we also had our first large assignment (I will upload the pictures on here!) I was disappointed with my work, although I put a lot of time into it (7+ hours!) I felt was way too busy and the contours weren't going the right way. I need to train my eyes to do it, and I am glad I have three more chances to be able to get it right. I was really really frustrated with the contour drawing last week so I am glad I got a week to break from it. Onwards...

I think the top drawing turned out very successfully! The foreshortening looks correct and you were able to show volume in the form very nicely.I can see the amount of thought that was put into the torso. The feet on the bottom drawing are a little small, but that's ok because we hadn't talked about feet yet!! Nice work.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see more of your drawings posted, you don't seem to have many up yet. As for these two that you do have posted, I'd have to say that they are lookin' pretty good. My comments are the same as Erica's, so I won't repeat them, but I would also like to comment on your drawing style. I find your "sketchy but not so sketchy that it looks sloppy" way of mark-making to be quite interesting and nice to look at.

ReplyDeleteI thought these drawings were really well done, I also think the top drawing is very successful and the proportions seem pretty accurate. I had to laugh because I just did a blog post about how I am still doing my drawings without hands or feet because I get to intimidated to do those areas. Thank goodness we are learning feet so our drawings won't be feet-less anymore :).
ReplyDeleteI can tell you really spent a lot of time on the torso of your first drawing up there. I know how it feels to work and re-work a drawing until there is just so many erased marks that its almost not even worth continuing. then you reach that turning point, and its all worth it! good job!
